Hello Everyone,
My name is Jenny Schnoll and I am a new AJL member and new to
Hasafran. I am an LIS student at University of Toronto and a member
of Congregation Darchei Noam, the Reconstructionist Congregation in
Toronto. Darchei Noam will be moving into a new building in the Fall
and I have undertaken to help them get their Library started, while
achieving a credit! I have received some material from Debbie Stern
regarding building a Reconstructionist collection and plan to order
Susan Frieband's set on Collection Development in Smaller Judaica
Libraries. We will probably be using Weine as a classification system.
I would like to ask you about software. Can anyone in a smaller
synagogue library suggest a good user-friendly software package? I
have looked at Mandarin (which is used by a couple of groups in
Toronto because you can catalogue material in Hebrew). I have also
had a look at the Sagebrush system and I was online looking at Surpass
and liked their interface. I would aprreciate hearing from anyone who
is using these systems or others and any recommendations for a
start-up library with little money, probably run by volunteers. Any
other words of wisdom would alos be appreciated. Thanks

Jenny Schnoll
MISt Candidate
