Sorry I took so long to respond.
Some excellent Jewish historical fiction titles are The Harp by Meir 
Uri Gottesman and Sun Inside Rain by M. Bassara (both published by 
Targum Press).
I recommend the following secular titles: The Primrose Way by Jackie 
French Koller (Gulliver Books), which a student borrowed in September 
for a report and returned it at the end of the school year because 
she kept rereading it, and Queen's Own Fool by Jane Yolen and Robert 
J. Harris (Philomel).
