Dear AJL members:

Who says there are only four questions?

The Jewish Women's Archive has a commitment to asking many questions,
as we capture and preserve the stories of Jewish community members
through oral history.

As Passover approaches, we would like to offer a free copy of our
oral history guide, In Our Own Voices: A Guide to Conducting Life
History Interviews with American Jewish Women, to librarians who
would like to make this guide available to their communities.

In Our Own Voices is a step-by-step guide for anyone interested in
learning how to conduct oral history interviews. Used by teachers,
family educators, sisterhoods, bar/bat mitzvah and confirmation
classes, family history and genealogy buffs, Jewish organizations and
museums, and groups undertaking community oral history projects, the
guide includes sample forms for every step of the interview process,
exemplary stories from JWA’s oral history archives, and hundreds of
questions to ask that will help you conduct sensitive and probing interviews.

Respond by March 19th to Ruth Pearlstein at
<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your mailing
address and phone number, and receive a copy by Passover. Additional
copies of In Our Own Voices are available for use with selected oral
history projects. If you, or someone in your community, is
interested, please send us a brief description of your project.

What Others Say about In Our Own Voices:

"My Jewish Women's Class stumbled around for years trying to figure
out the most effective way to conduct an interview. We knew we wanted
an end product that would have both substance and quality, but we
didn't know quite how to get it. We tried new approaches each year,
sometimes with more, sometimes less success. JWA's In Our Own Voices
rescued us from our stumble. This oral history guidebook provides
clear direction, rich examples, and a reliable and deeply personal
end product. Thank you, JWA, for providing us the tools to both
gather and share our stories."
