The web pages below concern the proposed changes in the New York
Genealogical and
Biographical Society's by-laws. A post to the APG list at
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/APG/2007-07/1184214971 gives the
URL for the proposed
by-laws as
http://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/download/pdf/bylaw_redline_707_amd_July_version.pdf
(blue = proposed, red = delete, black = unchanged).

The mission statement in the by-laws reads "The mission of the
Society is to advance
genealogical scholarship and enhance the capabilities of both new and
experienced
researchers of family history, with emphasis on families and
communities connected to New
York City, State, and region."

Its current statement of purpose at
http://www.newyorkfamilyhistory.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1
reads "As a
non-profit educational institution, our purpose is to collect and
make available
information on genealogy, biography and history, particularly as it
relates to the people
of New York State. To carry out our purpose, we maintain one of the
principal genealogical
reference libraries in the United States, publish periodicals and
books, conduct
educational programs and provide other services."

Part of this reads "If you have voted and wish to change your vote, I
have been advised by
counsel that you can change your proxy vote. Simply download a new
proxy form from the
G&B's website and clearly mark on it the date and a note that this is
to replace your
earlier proxy vote. You can also come to the meeting at the society
on 19 July and request
that your proxy be destroyed and vote at the meeting."
