Adina Anflick American Jewish Historical Society <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>[EMAIL PROTECTED] POSTED: August 6, 2007 Project Archivist AMERICAN JEWISH HISTORICAL SOCIETY The American Jewish Historical Society, founded in 1892, seeks a part time grant funded Project Archivist to process three Hebrew orphanage collections at its New York City headquarters at the Center for Jewish History. The American Jewish Historical Society is the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States. The Society's library, archives, photograph, and art and artifacts collections document the American Jewish experience. Description: The Project Archivist will manage daily operations of the project: in consultation with the Project Director, will determine project priorities and resolve arrangement questions. Will arrange, describe and preserve the collections defined by this project following archival standards. Will define any restrictions based on confidential content and fragility. Will assign Library of Congress authority control terms for the collections and create MARC and EAD compatible finding aids for the collections. Will work with the Project Director to create MARC records. Qualifications: Master's degree in library science with formal coursework in archival management. Minimum two years experience in arrangement and description of diverse collections required. Knowledge of EAD and MARC preferred; Must have good writing and verbal skills. Must show a willingness to work independently as well as possess attention to detail. Salary is grant funded for eight months and does not include benefits.
