Dear Safranim, My favorite High Holiday book (full disclosure -- it's a Kar-Ben title) is "The Hardest Word" by Jacqueline Jules. Wonderful for grades 1-3, it's the story of the mythical Jewish bird the Ziz who learn that the hardest word is not some long multi-syllable word, difficult to spell and pronounce, but rather "sorry."
