Fred, Thanks for your concern about our Southern California members
being affected by the fires.

So far, I haven't heard of any problems. We in the central Los
Angeles and San Fernando Valley have not been affected -
fortunately! The worst hit have been all around us. We see the
smoke but the high winds that have caused havoc in the fire areas
have kept our skies relatively clear. I do know some personally who
have been evacuated in outlying areas - but haven't yet heard of any
libraries affected! As Suzi Dubin wrote, the San Diego area and
others are still very much a concern. This morning's news said the
fires are 80% contained, but then there are crazed arsonists who seem
to want to join in the melee - so new fires are springing up here and
there. We keep hoping that all will be well.

Barbara
