Evi has made a proposal that has some merit: Supporting and
sponsoring libraries in order to further the profession when the
institutions are unable to do so.

While I'm in favor of discussing the idea, I think our organization
itself should be our first priority. Several people hafe "kicked
around" the idea of an AJL Endowment for a few years, but there is a
baseline amount opf money to fund such a thing, and we don't have it.

I'd be interested in knowing what other members opf the list have to
say. I don't think it's entirely an "either/or" proposition. I
agree fully that we should be supportive of institutions when they
are under financial pressure, just as we do when they are under
intellectual attack.
