Hello all,
First of all I want to thank you all for such informed and
enthusiastic responses to my queries re: urban Chelm and dreidels. I
had posted a query earlier this week and many of you responded with
valuable information and tips. And that has led me onto my second
query, a query only Jewish librarians will able to ace.

I am a fan of Ben Schott's Original Miscellany. For those of you
unfamiliar with this British gem, it's an addictive book that
includes facts about everything from shoelace lengths to egg sizes,
from airport marshalling signals to firework categories and Cockney
rhyming slang. What holds this adventure together is the sense of
humour, adventure, and reclaimed knowledge. And that is what I'd like
to create with the dreidel.

So....my query is this: What are the best sources to find this
information? What web sites have reputable Judaica information? What
books would you suggest besides the EJ? I am looking here for all
matter of information, not just text but photographs, music,
diagrams, charts, anything and everything dreidel-like from any
country from any time period. I am particularly interested in facts
that are odd and not widely known, as well as information that will
be playful. This book would be for teenagers/and or adults and if
you have suggestions for publisher I might pitch this idea to I would
be grateful. What I want to create is a zany compendium that above
all will be raucously fun to read.

If you prefer to talk rather than e-mail I am happy to call anyone in
the world. My number in Toronto, Ontario Canada is 416 229 0320.
Please reply off-list as I am not an official member of the
listserve. And thanks again for allowing me to post a query here.
What amazing company!
