Donations are always a mixed blessing. First make sure that you have a written collection development policy.
Second be ready to hand a copy of the policy to all potential donors. Third make sure that all donors understand that the librarian may keep the books, sell them or dispose of them based on the needs of the library. There is no appeal to this decision. If someone asks why a book was not added simply say that the book did not fall within our collection development policy. If you need help with this policy, search the HaSafran archives as several people have shared their policies.
