Some of you who have read my "Cyberspace" columns in the AJL Newsletter might recall the last column I wrote, back in 2005, "Wiki, Wiki, Rise and Shine" about the wikis in general and Wikipedia specifically. The article is online at http://ajlontario.tripod.com/column15.htm
One of the observations I made was this : "Not surprisingly, among the disputed articles are several that pertain to Jewish life, including "Israeli terrorism", "Zionism and Racism", "Jewish m mythology", "Hebrews" and "Circumcision". " 3 years later and Dr. Oboler (post-doctoral fellow in Political Science at Bar-Ilan University) has posted an article alleging that Wikipedia is biased against Israel and specifically against the pro-Israel media watchdog CAMERA. Myself, I am trying not to make a political statement or saying that I agree with either Wikipedia's decisions or Oboler's article. Just trying to point to a recent article that adds to the debate on bias in disseminating information about Israel & the Middle East. To add a bit more perspective, here is a link to Wikipedia's page in response to the anti-Israel accusation : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Eleland/Response_to_accusations_of_Wikipedia's_anti-Israel_bias Finally, here's an article on the Electronic Intifada website : "EI exclusive: a pro-Israel group's plan to rewrite history on Wikipedia" http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article9474.shtml Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) =========================================================== Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: Current: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html History: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/history.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
