Hello HaSafran. My name is Karen Z. and I'm affiliated with an historic temple's library in Cincinnati. My committee has just completed an ambitious weeding of our collection, and we have several thousand volumes that need to exit our building. I am researching good and honorable ways to get the books, many of them from our early rabbis' personal libraries, many antiques, into the hands of people who will value them. I may or may not be able to throw an "unlimited giveaway for a nominal donation" for members of the Jewish (and interested) community here. That will occur in early December IF it is OK'd. If we can generate any funds for library support along the way, we'll be gratified, but this is not a massive fundraiser. Likewise, we cannot afford to pay shipping for the books, over 150 boxes, to any destination.
Yossi Galron suggested that I put the question to this list: Who can accept a large quantity of Jewish ex-library books? I am investigating donating them to our Cincinnati library's ongoing Friends book sales, if they will take them. But my first priority would be to give Jewish books to a Jewish organization. I should say that we do NOT have a searchable database other than the traditional card catalog, listing our weeded holdings. Your responses are welcome, on or off list. Karen Z.
