when you drive a Beetle it's not like driving any other car…

Dear Librarian,

Using both humor and sentiment, Yishai Orion's film The Beetle, would
be a wonderful acquisition for your educational institution. This
well-liked documentary tells the story of the filmmaker and his VW
Beetle. And along the way we discover that the car is more than just
a car – and becoming a father is a journey worth taking.
The Beetle offers a refreshing look at life in a complicated part of
the world – where one man's voyage to fatherhood is completely
devoid of politics. Instead we discover a region where people live
their lives and confront reality with humor and self reflection.
Yishai, the filmmaker, owns an old VW Beetle. His mechanic says that
the car will not last, and his wife is concerned that the car is not
suitable for their child on the way. So Yishai sets out on a journey
that will take him to some of the previous owners of his car, to
Jordan to get the car fixed – and finally to the birth of his first son.
The Beetle has been shown at numerous film festivals the world over
including HotDocs 2008 – where it won the Audience Top Ten Laurel
Choice. The film was also nominated for the "Ophir Prize" – the
Israeli Academy Awards. The Beetle has already been purchased by
Harvard University, the University of Maryland, Duke University and Yale.
The Beetle would be a worthy addition to your film collection. It is
a gentle film with a good heart – as one review put it: "A
heartwarming experience that lifts the spirits and touches the gut"
