The fifth of Nissan - tonight and tomorrow here is Israel - is the Jahrzeit of
Nehama Leibowitz (1905-1997) z"l.
As many know, recently two biographies were published; one in Hebrew by
Hayuta Deutsch, and the other in English by Yael Unterman.
Deutsch's book will be awarded the Aminoah prize in a ceremony taking
place later in the spring.
Some time ago I formulated the idea to hold a ceremony of "Tefillat Nashim"
at the kever, and I set forth a detailed plan.
I was told that owing to her tzni'ut, the family wouldn't approve it.
I do think though that with time this date should assume some specific form.
The Ben Ish Hai wrote that on the Jahrzeit of a tzaddik, one should
learn "ma'amarim"
that he said. This would be one way of commemorating the memory of Nehama z"l,
learning portions of her writings and teachings.
Another direction would be for women - and men - to set aside some
time on "hey nissan" to learn Torah as they wish.
I welcome thoughts and comments.
Yael
