Dear safranim: I have recently had a discussion with an educator (high school level) who is trying to choose one good book about Jews to assign to her students. They will be learning about the Holocaust, but she agrees that young people need to learn there's more to being Jewish than putting up with anti-Semitism. Does anyone have any good recommendations (contemporary or historical fiction, maybe?) to give non-Jewish teenagers a good basic background? For that matter, can anyone recommend one good book for younger readers, maybe intermediate or middle school?
