As chair of the Manuscript Award Committee, I hope that some of you who heard Nechama Liss-Levinson's heartfelt acceptance speech will be motivated to join the committee.
We currently have one opening but anticipate additional openings next year. The term is five years. We evaluate 15-20 manuscripts appropriate for 8-11 year old readers . Decisions are made by March 15. Specifics about the Award can be found on the AJL website. Qualifications to serve on the committee are simple: member of AJL , able to write critical reviews and meet deadlines. The Committee consists of 5 members plus a chairperson. The Committee's membership represents AJL's diverse geographical, philosophical and professional diversity.The judging takes place in early winter after the December 15 deadline for submissions. Current members of another award committee and those who have recently served on another award committee are not eligible. I will keep resumes on file for future openings. Please reply offlist.
