Likely some of you have heard that on Saturday ALA cancelled the following day's panel: "Perspectives on Islam: Beyond the Stereotyping," less than 24 hours before the program would have happened, this following CAIR's attempts to marginalize and intimidate ALA and Spencer and the other panelists The other panelists did then abide by CAIR's exhortation and cancelled their participation. Rather than revise the content of the program with Spencer alone, some combination of ALA officers and other librarians/ and or paid staff cancelled the program and thereby gave CAIR what it sought. As one person who came to the room looking for the program said, "No one has the right to decide for me what I am capable of listening to and sorting out for myself." You can follow the threat of events from Spencer's point of view on his blog. www.jihadwatch.org. Spencer has a post today, July 12, and within it one can from within his text threat backwards through his earlier three postings this week. With CAIR trying to silence someone whom they see as their enemy, the issue became one of intellectual freedom. --- Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) =========================================================== Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: [email protected] SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: Current: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html History: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/history.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
