My tenth grade high school class (about 30 of us, in the fifites) was required to join a paperback-book-of-the-month club. Believe me, the choices were assorted - about five a month, I think, from mysteries to politics. Many of us ordered more than one book; I often got all of them. We then broke into groups and dramatized each of the books. We got such a fabulous education in all kinds of things that I wasn't accepted to the college of my parents' choice because the interviewer wanted to know how come we didn't read Silas Marner in tenth grade (it was one of the selections, in fact) and I told her what I thought of that. (I did get into the college of my own choice.)
Therefore, I think it's wonderful. --- Messages and opinions expressed on Hasafran are those of the individual author and are not necessarily endorsed by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) =========================================================== Submissions for Ha-Safran, send to: [email protected] SUBscribing, SIGNOFF commands send to: Listproc @ lists.acs.ohio-state.edu Questions, problems, complaints, compliments;-) send to: galron.1 @ osu.edu Ha-Safran Archives: Current: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/maillist.html History: http://www.mail-archive.com/hasafran%40lists.acs.ohio-state.edu/history.html AJL HomePage http://www.JewishLibraries.org
