Hello Safranim, I got this email from a friend of a friend in Israel and I thought she may get some help from this group so I am passing it along.
Lisa Silverman Library Director Sinai Temple Blumenthal Library 10400 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90024 310-481-3215 [email protected] Hi! My name is Annette Amir. I moved with my family recently to Moshav Tirat Yehuda, located in the center of Israel, five minutes from the airport, 15 from Petach Tikva. This is a modern orthodox community. They had just opened a library here about two years ago, for all ages, for Hebrew books. There were also quite a few donations of English books, from the Anglo families living here. I am one of the main librarians here, and we all volunteer. We really do not have any budget at all and rely on donations. I am trying to build up the English collection - not only for the Anglo families here but for the Israeli children as well, who always need books in English for school book reports, etc. I was told by another librarian here in Israel that there are organizations in the US that mail book donations to schools and libraries here. The English books we buy here are much more expensive than the Hebrew equivalents. If you do have extra copies of books and you would be willing to send them or ship them, we would be delighted. Maybe you could even suggest it as a synagogue project. If there are a lot of people from your community coming to Israel, perhaps they would be willing to bring even a small parcel of books with them. We would be so grateful for the extra help!! The books we are seeking are for grammar school (from about 3-4 grade level) through high school age, popular series, classics, adventures, books without sexual or violent content. We would also appreciate books for the adult readers - popular quality fiction and non-fiction, history and historical fiction, biographies, arts-related books, (we have three ceramic artists living and teaching here, myself included!!); Jewish-Israeli related themes, and a small bit of science fiction and thrillers. We are trying to set up an English Book Club here as well, not only for the native English speakers but to encourage our Israeli readers to read the English books and to start up a dialogue about reading. We would appreciate any help you can offer, and please feel free to pass this letter on to whoever may be interested to donate to our library. You can be in touch with me through this email address, my phone numbers here are 03-922-6964 or my cell phone is 052-6922-690. My email is [email protected]. Our mailing address here is: either to the Library or care of Annette Amir or Ilanit Roos, Moshav Tirat Yehuda, Doar Na Mercaz, T. D. 249 73175 Israel. Thank you in advance for your time and cooperation!!We would really appreciate any help you can offer.
