Hi Diane,

Where is Yonkela was written by Marilyn Hirsh, of blessed memory, and
was based on a family story about her father when he was a baby in
the Old Country. You were spelling "Yonkela" incorrectly, which is
why the problem. I checked www.abebooks.com and found copies ranging
from $63 to $150 a copy and up. Marilyn would probably have some
interesting comment to make about that.

Marilyn was a scholar of East Indian art, a former Peace Corps
volunteer, a woman with a personality larger than life sized and a
heart to match. She died of cancer at 40. . Check the online
encyclopedia of Jewish women for her biographical entry and my entry
under Children's Literature for some information on her other works
and her contribution to the field.

Diane,

I forgot to suggest that you might find an examination copy at one of
Denver's Jewish libraries. Odds are there is still at least one copy
in circulation there.

Rita
