Jewish records - anything with Jewish content - should be sent to
Florida Atlantic University's Judaica Music Archives, which began
life as the "Judaica Music Rescue Project" in 2002 with some 1,000
recordings. Nathan Tinanoff was and still is the director.

http://faujsa.fau.edu/

Currently, it has some 60,000 recordings and is part of the newly
created FAU Library's Sound Archives (LSA) which also houses major
collections of historic 78-rpm records and jazz recordings (in
conjunction with FAU's Music Department).

It receives donations from individuals and institutions - some 10,000
per year. About 12 major institutions are involved in the
JGA-Research Station. Also making significant donations to the
preservation effort include Baltimore Hebrew University, Spertus
Institute of Jewish Studies (Chicago), and University of Central
Florida (Orlando). The National Yiddish Book Center has also been
involved in the development of the JSA.

"The primary mission of the Judaica Sound Archives at FAU Libraries
is to collect, preserve, and digitize Judaica sound recordings; to
create educational programs highlighting the contents of this rich
cultural legacy; and to encourage the use of this unique scholarly
resource by students, scholars and the general public."

Contact director Nathan Tinanoff to ask about their interest in what
you might have. FAU's archive is amazing, digitized and growing all
the time. Items that may have been trashed are now accessible to researchers.

The JSA website is http://jsa.fau.edu/ and its blog is
http://faujsa.fau.edu/blog/. The LINKS tab offers more information
and useful sites, including Sephardic music.

Among my personal finds: Several early 1900s recordings made by my
great-great-uncle Hazzan Avram Jassen (variously listed as A. Yssen
or Avraham or Abraham Jassen), a wunderkind chazzan from Belarus. In
New York, he had a Brooklyn congregation and also sung at the Met.

With best wishes
