Having either misplaced or never received a copy of one of last year's newsletters, I found myself printing off my own copy of an issue very recently. The first thing I noticed was how much more colorful the actual newsletter is before being sent to our publisher. Since I have a color printer at home, I was able to see all of the color, unlike the published copies I've had mailed to me. The paper it was printed on wasn't as nice, but if I wanted to, I could buy beter paper for printing with. As far as missing material goes, there was one noticable difference : the ads. This was particularly glaring when I would end up with an almost blank page (just "AJL Newsletter", the date, and the page number) which would have been a full-page ad in the published newsletter. I would suggest that this is an important factor which needs to be addressed. If online-only editions won't allow ads, that could be a significant loss of revenue, as well as having readers miss out on pre-publication ads for books we'd like to put on our "might purchase" lists. If we do retain the advertising, we might want to charge a bit more to the advertisers, as they theoreticallly would be reaching more readers, above & beyond the AJL membership. B'shalom, Steven M.
