Hello. You have already heard from me, as well as from others, about
opportunities for members to participate in AJL activities. I would
like to remind you of these opportunities, to emphasize their
importance and to encourage you to participate.

There is still time to submit a proposal to make a presentation at
our upcoming June conference in Montreal. We encourage you in
particular to think of topics that improve the library skills of our
members, from reference to reader assistance, from collection
development to cataloging, from internet resources to preservation,
from fund raising to de-accessioning. Please send your proposals to
our convention committee.

The position of Chair of Chapter Relations is very important. Many
of our members have never attended our conventions. Their exposure
to new developments in Judaica librarianship and their ability
to network with fellow librarians depend on participating in an
active local chapter. We have been lucky to have had very energetic
and devoted chairs of this committee who supported local chapter
activities and worked hard to set up new chapters. This is a
wonderful chance to become acquainted with our members in many
different locations. Please contact me if you are interested.

We have a vacancy in our Newsletter to share the editorship
of children and young adults reviews with Anne Dublin. If you enjoy
sharing information about good books with others, this is the perfect
job for you. Our reviews of the children and young adults literature
are an important tool for our many members in schools, synagogues and
centers. This is a good position for a book lover who can't keep his
or her enthusiasm for good books hidden away.

And finally, but certainly not least, we need someone to do copy
editing and layout for the Newsletter. We consistently produce a
clean layout and nice looking pages. If you are a detail person,
with good writing and editing skills, this is the job for you.

If you are interested in either of the newsletter jobs, please
contact the editor Uri Kolodney.

We are a voluntary work force. We don't have an executive director,
and we need to rely on our members to perform all of the
organization's many activities. I would like particularly to
encourage those of you who have not been involved at the national
level to take a more active role. It is important for us not only to
have committee members and chairmen who are very experienced. We are
always interested in the knowledge and ideas that new participants
can bring to running our organization.

AJL needs you, and is eager for you to participate in our many activities.
