Dear Friends, I have received many responses to my questions about e-books and mp3 downloads for library patrons, but most of the responses have been from those who also want the information, not from those who have info and experience to share!
So far, here are 2 sources I have found, neither of which really looks right for our small Judaic library: Judaic Digital Library (www.judaicdigitallibrary.com) offers about 400 e-book titles, mostly scholarly (not fiction, which I am looking for). They set charges based on size and type of library. At this time, the books much be accessed and read on a computer. They have plans for future availability on smart phones and some e-books readers (Nook, and maybe Kindle). Overdrive is a source for both e-books and mp3 downloads, but the e-books are NOT compatible with the Kindle. Apparently this vendor is used by many public libraries, and one library gave me a quote of $4000 for membership! (not in my budget! -- but perhaps the price varies -- I don't know). Also, this is a general source which may not offer much Judaica. That's all for now. I am eager to hear more from all of you. Will get back to the list with updates. Thanks to all.
