We have already received a number of fabulous donations to our first
ever AJL Convention silent auction. For those of you who have been
wavering, or wondering what to donate, here are some suggestions:
books
CDs and DVDs
software
Judaica
gift cards
subscriptions
arts and crafts (show off and give away your original
paintings, drawings, photographs, textiles [hint to SS], etc.)
library paraphernalia (T-shirts, mugs, posters, etc.)
other good stuff
baskets of regional and local specialties
IOUs for drinks at the bar
Your donations to the AJL silent auction help raise funds for two
good causes. Proceeds from the auction will be divided between the
Auberge Shalom pour femmes (the Jewish women's shelter in Montreal;
http://www.aubergeshalom.org/ ) and the AJL convention stipend fund.
It's a double mitzvah!
But now, there's another great reason to donate to the auction...
For a limited time, convention attendees who donate items to the
silent auction will receive a lovely Hawaiian puka shell lei,
absolutely free! Puka shell lei make much nicer badge holders than
simple lanyards or cords. If you sport a puka shell lei at the
convention, you will be the envy of all your friends. These lei are
not available in stores (on the mainland).
But wait, there's more! If you donate now, you will receive a second
puka shell lei! That's a US $0.98 value. And your lei are yours to
keep, even if you leave the convention early!
And for those of you who can't attend the convention...

shlepper service (SASS), so you can avoid international shipping.
