I just want to spread the word that we had a wonderful event featuring Mitchell James Kaplan, author of By Fire, By Water speaking at Temple Beth El Saturday evening, March 19. The book is a fascinating and enjoyable historical novel about the converso, Luis de Santangel, who was an advisor to Isabel and Ferdinand and financier of Columbus's initial voyages to the new world. Mitchell is a skilled and charming speaker and the background about how he came to write this novel could be a novel in itself. If you are looking for an interesting author event, I highly recommend inviting him to speak.
