Last week there was some discussion on this listserv about A Convenient
Hatred: The History of Antisemitism by Phyllis Goldstein, published by
Facing History and Ourselves. Since I work for Facing History, I?d like to
provide a little more information.

A Convenient Hatred traces the history of antisemitism from the first
recorded incident in 586 BCE to the contemporary world. It reveals the
ways the stereotypes and myths that lie at the heart of this particular
hatred have evolved and why those lies persist despite heroic efforts to
counter them. The book also reveals the power of words and the role that
leaders (political, religious, economic, and social) play in keeping
antisemitism and other hatreds alive. It has been well received by
Publishers Weekly, the New York Journal of Books, and The Daily Beast.

For more than 35 years, Facing History and Ourselves has been connecting
the past to the moral and ethical issues of our time by exploring
histories that raise profound questions about the nature of evil, the
power of stereotypes, and the importance of prevention. Holocaust
education is central to our work. Our key resource book, Facing History
and Ourselves: Holocaust and Human Behavior, leads students from
exploration of their own identities to contemplation of what makes someone
the ?other? in society to investigating the forces that undermined
democracy in Germany and ultimately led to the Holocaust. Continuing to
questions of judgment and the legacy of the Holocaust, students consider
how their decisions can make a positive difference in their community,
their nation, and the world.

A nonprofit organization that combats antisemitism, racism, and other
forms for bigotry through education, Facing History helps individuals of
diverse backgrounds make the essential connection between history and the
moral choices they confront in their own lives.

A Convenient Hatred is available though Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
