The Biblical injunction concerning the Sabbath is generally taken as a
cryptic reference, itself without meaning, to a series of unconnected
laws supplied only by oral tradition.
The author, Alan Smith, disagrees. He shows that understanding the words
of the Biblical text correctly, and not as generally taught, enables
most of the laws in the Talmud attributed to the Torah to be deduced
from the text itself. As a result, the laws then cease to be
unconnected, illogical and unacceptable to the ‘man in the street’.
Other matters connected with the Sabbath and with the Festivals overall
are explained within this approach.
