Hi Deborah,

I have one of these necklaces...the star unfolds to a string of butterflies
which are pretty zigzag-ish now that you mention it.

In the time of the Spanish Inquisition, converts to Catholism who secretly
continued to practice their Jewish faith, would wear a butterfly necklace
like this, which forms a Star of David when it is closed. Here is a link
to see it pictured both open and closed. It can be purchased on that site
as well. Hope that helps.

B'Shalom,

Ginny

There are a couple of sources I quickly found online for Star-of-David
necklaces that "convert" to other than Star of David. One of them appears
to be a Christian jewelry site with a cubic zirconium necklace

There may be other sites too, but these were a couple that were quickly
discovered.

I saw that in that catalog, maybe it's "The Source for Everything Jewish".
It's a new necklace. It says that the origin was from the Spanish
Inquisition period, so that they could hide that they were Jewish. Somehow,
I do wonder if that is true or if someone made that up to make money
recently.
