My department is responsible for cataloging DVDs (and lots of other resources!) from many countries of the world. Our library Information Systems department loaded open-source software called VLC media player from an organization called VideoLAN http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ to enable us to catalog the various DVD formats. This software has worked well for us.
