Library description: The Jewish Public Library is a public lending and research library mandated to collect comprehensive and diverse bibliographic material on Jews and Judaism in Canada and the rest of the world. It is the largest collection of circulating Judaica in North America, and along with its extensive children's Library and Archives, serves the Montreal and international communities principally but not exclusively in English, French, Yiddish, Hebrew, and Russian. Title: Head of Library Services and Community Outreach (One Year Replacement) General Description: The Head of Library Services is responsible for overseeing the circulation and programming departments of the Main Library as well as provision of reference service, and will act as staff liaison to the Yiddish Cultural programming Committee in the organization of Yiddish cultural events and courses. Additionally, the job includes outreach programming, including leading workshops, tours, library instruction and special events. The job includes work in the evenings and on Sundays. Qualifications: * MLS from accredited library school or equivalent * Knowledge of Jewish history, culture, religion an asset * Must be fluently bilingual (English and French) with knowledge of Yiddish. Hebrew is an asset * 3-5 years experience in reference and/or public services * Minimum of one year of managerial experience in a professional library environment * Knowledge of trends and developments in library instruction, outreach and programming * Initiative and leadership skills, with willingness to share expertise, work in teams, and negotiate solutions with diverse groups. * Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
