Hello Fellow Safranim:
I would like to invite you to a wonderful program at the Westchester Jewish
Center, Hendel Family Library, on Wednesday, May 16, at 7:30 PM when we
will welcome author David Schmahmann to our library. Mr. Schmahmann is the
author or such books as *Empire Settings* and *Ivory from Paradise*.

Mr. Schmahmann will talk about the Jewish community of South Africa as
reflected in his literature. David Schmahmann was born in Durban, South
Africa. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Cornell Law School, and
has studied in India and Israel and worked in Burma. His first novel, *Empire
Settings*, received the John Gardner Book Award, and his publications
include a short story in The Yale Review and articles on legal issues.

He practices law in Boston, and lives in Weston, Massachusetts. Following
the program there will be a book sale and signing and collation.
You may RSVP to me at your convenience.
