As a continuation of my posting yesterday, I'm going to provide additional details which should make the traditional mingle a bit more attractive to "the klal". This year reverse mentoring and peer-to-peer mentoring have been added to the agenda. Since many of you do not find yourselves suited to the traditional framework of mentoring (as either mentor or as mentee), alternatives to learning, growing and sharing among professionals have been added.
"Reverse mentoring" takes place when seasoned librarians receive advice from more newly minted library school students or graduates. In return, the seasoned librarians reciprocate with expertise from their line of experience. "Peer-to-peer mentoring" is more lateral in nature. For example, a reference librarian might "cross-pollinate" ideas of interest with a technical services maven, and vice-versa. "Study-buddies" is sometimes used to describe this arrangement. Whatever your style, we hope to see many of you at this gathering on Sunday from 8:30-11PM. Come together with colleagues to casually discuss hot button topics such as library advocacy, employment, change of careers, fund-raising, and electronic resources. Of course, this venue is only the beginning of convention-long networking, connecting and supporting. Please contact me at your earliest convenience if you are interested in any of the above forms of mentoring. Even if you are not a first-timer and simply want to maximize your attendance at convention, you should certainly take advantage of this great service. There is NO additional charg. RSVPs are welcome but not mandatory. Have a safe journey!
