Hi Amy:

In my opinion, it's probably not worth the investment until the price drops down to about $300 or less, unless you're doing authority work for your library. EJ2 is pretty much just EJ1 (1970's English, not the 1920's German) rewarmed on crummy paper with a questionable index, and a few new articles.

I believe there a couple of thoughtful reviews in the latest issue of Judaica Librarianship (v.15?), and perhaps these might help you make the right decision.

Collective wisdom (I really do love how that describes this group),

I just received an e-mail offering the 2nd edition of Encyclopedia Judaica for $995. Clearly a bargain over the list price. My question is to those of you who purchased this, especially synagogue libraries. Do you feel that it's been a worthwhile purchase? Would you recommend buying it?

Thanks in advance,
Amy Graham
