Dear Safranim,

Besides my volunteer job in my synagogue library I am employed in a public
library shelving books. One of the librarians in the public library asked if
there is a Jewish equivalent to the genre of "Christian Fiction." The hope is
to balance the collection with Jewish and Moslem fiction that is along the same
lines as the Christian fiction.

About Christian Fiction from Wikipedia - "Deborah Bryan of the Kansas Library
Association suggests that a Christian fiction writer must comply with certain
restraints such as: (1) Accept the truthful authority of the Bible (2) Address
dilemmas through faith in Jesus (3) Believe that Jesus died and rose for sins
of all people (4) A writer is restricted from writing about certain
“taboos.”[8]. She also suggests that this genre of books typically promotes
values, teaches a lesson, always has a happy ending (good prevails over evil in
all books), adheres to a decency code (certain boundaries such as sexuality,
strong language, and topics of such cannot be crossed)..."

Some authors who write in this genre are Janette Oke, Karen Kingsbury, Judith
McCoy Miller, Tracie Peterson, Bethany Kennedy Scanlon, Tosca Lee and Robert
Whitlow.

Does Judaism have anything comparable to Christian Fiction?

Thank you so much.
