Lovely idea! But it's likely that the other families who will shop at the shul book sale have their own no-longer-needed PJ Library books. Where next?
The idea of pairing a book w/ pajamas to be given to children in homeless shelters or wherever is also lovely, but the majority of the children receiving PJ's (or hats & gloves, or backpacks filled with school supplies, or...) in community collections, including the collections sponsored by Jewish organizations, are not Jewish, and the PJ library books are very Jewish. Even the books that have content appropriate for a child of any religious background, like Mirik Snir's When I First Held You: A Lullaby from Israel, have text about the Jewish family on the book flaps. What to do with extra PJ Library books? My wife feels the exact same way. In the four months that our new infant has been receiving books, three of them her older sister already has. My wife sets aside the duplicates as well as any that we choose not to keep, for the used book sale that our shul runs annually by volunteers. If anyone is interested in adding their own books to this, please mail them to the following address: Heights Jewish Center Synagogue 14270 Cedar Road Cleveland, Ohio 44121 (216) 382-1958 www.hjcs.org Thank you.
