Dear Hasafran Friends: By now you are aware that our dear friend and colleague, Adaire Klein along with her husband Manny Klein, will be making aliyah this coming Spring. While I am filled with great joy about this choice I admit that I have shed a few tears as well, because I will miss her terribly. Adaire happens to be someone who is part of a couple of spheres of my life: a colleague as a professional librarian AND as members of our synagogue B'nai David- Judea (BDJ) here in Los Angeles. I am the President of our synagogue and Adaire has served on the Board for many years. We have been congregants here together for a couple of decades! THIS YEAR Our synagogue, BDJ, has chosen to honor Manny and Adaire Klein at our annual dinner which will be held in March. (We even moved the date from June to March in order to accommodate their date of aliyah--that's how important to us these honorees are!) The Kleins give wonderful expression to our synagogue values of warmth, the sacred work of being a Jew (*avodah*) and a deep love of Israel. Manny and Adaire are welcoming and warm and include so many people in their lives and home. We all know of Adaire's work in creating more committed Jews through her work with people who are studying for conversion to Judaism (hundreds of people have gone through Adaire!) and Manny's work with the *eruv* in Los Angeles, and now truly giving expression to their love of Israel by making aliyah. I hope you all will join with me in honoring and wishing Manny and Adaire much success with their move and life in Israel. It is with deep appreciation to G!d that I give thanks for having Manny and Adaire in my life.
