Gee, I was hoping someone would recommend my book so I wouldn't have to toot my own horn, but here goes. I suggest Shanghai Shadows, a novel about the 20,000 Jewish refugees who escaped to China and spent the duration of the war in Shanghai, under Japanese occupation. It's a little-known story and a welcome (I hope) departure from the European angle. The Jews in Shanghai weren't targeted for extermination, but they were forced into a ghetto, where they formed a rich and varied culture under extremely difficult circumstances.
Thanks for considering the book ... Lois LOIS RUBY Author of Steal Away Home The Secret of Laurel Oaks Strike! Mother Jones and the Colorado Coal Field War www.loisruby.com
