Gee, I was hoping someone would recommend my book so I wouldn't have to toot my
own horn, but here goes. I suggest Shanghai Shadows, a novel about the 20,000
Jewish refugees who escaped to China and spent the duration of the war in
Shanghai, under Japanese occupation. It's a little-known story and a welcome (I
hope) departure from the European angle. The Jews in Shanghai weren't targeted
for extermination, but they were forced into a ghetto, where they formed a rich
and varied culture under extremely difficult circumstances.

Thanks for considering the book ...
