Dear fellow ha-Safran members - I would like to let you know about the
upcoming International Holocaust Remembrance Day event at the US Holocaust
Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, which focuses on our newest book, "The
Auschwitz Volunteer." The program is entitled:

"Captain Witold Pilecki and the Resistance in Auschwitz"

Featuring Dr. Piotr Setkiewicz, Director of Research at the
Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, and Dr. Timothy Snyder, Housum Professor of
History, Yale University.

In commemoration of 2013 International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the US
Holocaust Memorial Museum, in cooperation with the Polish Embassy, is
presenting this program about the incredible story of Witold Pilecki, whose
report on Auschwitz we have just translated into English and published as
"The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery," with a foreword by Rabbi Michael
Schudrich, Chief Rabbi of Poland, and an Introduction by Professor Norman
Davies.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anne Applebaum, writing in The New Republic,
calls it "extraordinary," and says "Pilecki's depiction of life in Auschwitz
and his description of opposition in Auschwitz deserves to be read alongside
the accounts of Primo Levi and Elie Wiesel."

The New York Times Sunday Book Review, in a review by Yale Professor Timothy
Snyder, says, "Pilecki's report on Auschwitz, unpublishable for decades in
Communist Poland and now translated into English.is a historical document of
the greatest importance."
