The ELIME-21<http://elime.web.unc.edu> fellows in the School of Information and
Library Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill<http://sils.unc.edu/> plan to edit a volume on library and information
science (LIS) in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Chapters focusing on
critical analysis of contemporary practices and LIS issues in MENA are sought
for a collection by practicing librarians, LIS faculty or students from all
over the world. Ideal chapters will place library and information issues in the
broader context of recent regional history and explain the ways in which
particular issues manifest themselves in MENA.

The audience of this volume will be library and information professionals and
scholars who wish to familiarize themselves with the state of the field, its
regional history, current challenges and opportunities for development. The
book will be aimed at those conducting research on LIS in the region or who are
interested in contributing to the development of the field in MENA.

Each chapter will be in English and range between 3000 and 5000 words, although
longer chapters are welcome. We will not consider previously published or
simultaneously submitted material. We will not consider chapters with more than
two authors. The proposal should be approximately 500-700 words. Please clearly
explain the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Interested authors
are invited to submit a proposal on or before 15 February 2013. Please send the
proposal, along with a current CV, to Amanda Click at
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. Proposals without an
accompanying CV for each author will not be considered.

N. B.: This volume is at the proposal stage with our publisher. Once the
proposals have been vetted, a list of chapters and authors will be compiled and
the full proposal will be submitted to the publisher and shared with the
authors. If the volume is accepted by the publisher, final manuscripts will be
expected around 1 November 2013.
