Dear fellow ha-Safran members – we are excited to announce that at an awards
ceremony in Washington, D.C. last Thursday, the Association of American
Publishers awarded our book "The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery," by
Captain Witold Pilecki, translated by Jarek Garlinski, the prestigious 2012
PROSE Award for Biography & Autobiography.

The PROSE Awards honor excellence in scholarly and professional publishing.
We were competing against all the major university presses and large
established publishers, and were the only independent to win an award – so
you can imagine that we’re pretty proud. For more info:

Writing in The New Republic, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Anne Applebaum
says "Pilecki’s depiction of life in Auschwitz and his description of
opposition in Auschwitz deserves to be read alongside the accounts of Primo
Levi and Elie Wiesel."

The New York Times Sunday Book Review, in an extensive review by Yale
Professor Timothy Snyder (Bloodlands), calls The Auschwitz Volunteer "a
historical document of the greatest importance." Rabbi Michael Schudrich,
Chief Rabbi of Poland, says The Auschwitz Volunteer "is essential reading
for anyone interested in the Holocaust."

On January 27th, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum focused its 2013
International Holocaust Remembrance Day event on The Auschwitz Volunteer and
its author Witold Pilecki. More info (including a video of the program) at:
