This is a very general question for a listserv. Considering a graduate course
requires about 160 hours of work to master the subject, what can be written in
an e-mail?

I work in a small library and the amount of expertise required of the
librarians varies by the day. Even though I am supposed to be mostly a
cataloger, at any given moment I could give reference help, advise students on
using a computer program, work on acquisitions, lead a library instruction
session, do outreach, prepare publicity, and attend management meetings. In
addition to cataloging everything from 2013 books to non-print media in any
format since the beginning of writing.

The librarians spend 10 or more hours a week just to keep up with their field
and professional developement.
