Instructional Design and Online Education Librarian - 0405191
James Madison University Libraries and Educational Technologies seeks 
applicants for the newly created position of Instructional Design and Online 
Education Librarian. This is a tenure track librarian faculty position 
reporting to the Director of Library Instruction. James Madison University 
(JMU) is a public, comprehensive university of approximately 20,000 students 
located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, two hours southwest of Washington, 
D.C. The university has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the 
top-rated public regional master's level university for seventeen consecutive 
years. The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges has named the university one of 
the nation's 50 best value institutions. The university places a strong 
emphasis on undergraduate research and offers 34 master's programs and 8 
doctoral programs.

The JMU Libraries are part of the Libraries and Educational Technologies 
division, which has the mission of enriching our communities by building 
learning and information environments where people connect with ideas and with 
each other to discover, create and share knowledge. The libraries include 
Carrier Library with collections supporting the arts, humanities and social 
sciences and also housing administration and technical services; Rose Library 
with collections supporting science, technology and health sciences and the 
Music Library. This position will also participate in the activities of the 
Center for Instructional Technology (CIT), a division of Libraries and 
Educational Technologies that leads, supports and advocates for the meaningful 
integration of appropriate technologies into the academic experience.

The Instructional Design and Online Education Librarian will work with 
colleagues in the library and the CIT to design and coordinate immersion events 
for instructional faculty to promote information literacy and technology 
fluency. The successful applicant will also collaborate with academic 
departments and librarian colleagues to identify and meet training and support 
needs related to distance, blended and hybrid programs. In addition to serving 
as a liaison librarian to an academic department, the successful applicant will 
design, develop, maintain and promote instructional materials and digital 
learning objects as well as assist librarians and instructional faculty in 
designing and maintaining digital learning objects. This position will assist 
in the development of strategies for assessing learning outcomes of 
instructional activities including online, asynchronous and in-person 
instruction. The successful candidate will be a core member of both the 
Library's Instruction Unit and CIT's Faculty Development Team.

The position requires an ALA accredited master's degree with a second master's 
degree in instructional technology or a related field preferred. Other 
qualifications include experience working with students and faculty in higher 
education and experience with instructional technologies including course 
management systems, lesson building software, content management systems, video 
authoring and screen capture software, evaluation and assessment software and 
mobile apps or interfaces. The successful candidate will also have excellent 
oral and written communication skills. Faculty status requires the potential to 
meet standards for tenure and promotion.
