who participate in the Hebraica NACO Funnel

Subject: Training and review for creating original RDA records for resources in
Hebrew script*

Creating an original bibliographic record for a resource in Hebrew script
presents an array of challenges, and employs special rules and practices.
Issues encountered while describing resources in Hebrew script under AACR2
exist also under RDA.

Standard BIBCO training materials cover RDA, but Hebraica catalogers will
benefit from additional training and review.   The PCC hopes that offering a
unified approach for such training and review will increase the availability of
high-quality records cataloged according to RDA.

Pre-requisites for RDA training for Hebrew script:

1.   Membership in PCC BIBCO and/or the Hebraica NACO Funnel

2.   RDA NACO training to reach independence

3.   Completion of BIBCO RDA “ Bridge ” training, using online LC RDA
descriptive cataloging Modules 1-4, and the online BIBCO RDA Webinars 1-4 (live
or recorded)

Methods:

1.   Trainers will provide initial guidelines for Hebraica cataloging in RDA.

2.   Participants will follow the PCC BIBCO Standard Record (BSR) for textual
monographs ( http://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/scs/documents/PCC-RDA-BSR.pdf ).

3.   Participants will submit records and receive comments from reviewers.

*Note:   Authentication of bibliographic records with official BIBCO coding
“042 pcc” will be used only by catalogers in BIBCO institutions, although all
participants in this training will be able to create RDA bibliographic records.
Staff at LC and other institutions are hopeful that this training program for
Hebraica RDA will expand into a BIBCO Hebraica Funnel.
