Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for recent children's books about Isreal. Almost half of the responses I received were from librarians asking for the results of my query. It looks like we're all searching for new, quality books about Israel. If any children's authors or publishers read this listserve, maybe you will be inspired to fill an obvious need in Jewish publishing.

Keeping Israel Safe: Serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Profiles four teenagers who are joining the Israel Defense Forces and discusses what their responsibilities will be once they enlist and the history of Israeli military services. This is appropriate for middle school. Kar-Ben, 2008. Can you let me know what you find. It is hard to find such books. A few recent ones are The Cats on Ben Yehuda Street and First Rain but they are for the younger range of your request. You will find 92 items and from that page, you can find the drop down menu and arrange it to search by "year" and look at the latest ones we have. Then you can go back to the search page again and change the "J" to "YA" to take a look at our holdings for older children.
