American Libraries Live<http://ala-publishing.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0zMjA3MjIyJnA9MSZ1PTEwMjY2MjQzMzAmbGk9MTY5MDM1OTc/index.html>-online learning is changing the way schools work. From elementary to graduate school to continuing education, online tools are creating new horizons in distance learning and new tools to supplement in-person learning. But what does this mean for libraries? Sarah Steiner, Social Work and Virtual Services Librarian at Georgia State University Library will lead our expert panel: * John Shank, Instructional Design Librarian and Associate Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching at Penn State University * Lauren Pressley, Head of Instruction at Wake Forest University Libraries ***SLG : Many AJL members have been talking about exploring alternative methods of communication, instruction and participation in conferences. What are YOUR impressions about Google Hangouts? Please assume that both content and presenters are A+. Are there sessions, workshops, skills that might lend themselves to this technology? Have any of you experimented with GH for tutorials, embedded instruction? Regarding continuing education, would anyone wish to suggest a topic for a Hebraica/Judaica MOOC? Teach a MOOC? Personally, I've attended Google Hangouts in real time as well via archives. There seems to be less of a problem with it than AdobeConnect. I've enjoyed WebEx events when the audio has been clear and there were slides, including graphs or other pertinent visuals to be shown. Hangouts tend to lend themselves to panel discussions or blended presentations.
