To whom it may concern:

I write you this letter in hopes you can help me or direct toward the right
persons or resources. I apologize in advance if I duplicated addresses,
points of contact or have the wrong persons.

I am the point of contact here in Brooklyn, NY US for a young German-
jewish student in Germany who, on her own accord and time, volunteered and
is tasked with organizing a museum project/exhibition dedicated to honor
the memory of Jewish German-born soldiers who served in the great war of
World War 1. (NOTE: Please see text below for greater description)

As it is extremely difficult to find information about WW1 and the
involvement of German Jews, I appeal to organizations around the world for
their help. Julia is specifically looking for items (photos, military
documents, passes, awards, uniforms, military clothing, books, religious
items, recordings, etc....) that could be put on display in this museum
exhibition. We also ask that any reproductions or items used would be
granted permission to be put on display. Availability for funds are
extremely limited as no budget was approved to help with this project, I
thus humbly and respectfully request your help in helping make this
project a fantastic one.

Please help me honor the Jews during that time and keep their history
alive. They fought so valiantly and were really a part of history as many
have forgotten and would like to deny their contributions. Any help would
greatly be appreciated. I can be available to meet in person or help with
any work should you be limited in your staff.

Thank you again

*German Sewish Soldiers in World War 1*

World War 1 is considered as the forgotten war, hence most people don't
know anymore what actually happened around that time. Since german jewish
history is mainly focussed on the Holocaust, people forgot that german
jewish soldiers fought with for germany in World War 1 before. This project
shall deliver results about the jewish people, their attitude toward
germany, the war and their role in german society before and during World
War 1.

This project is run by the Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg and Dr.
Monika Gibas who does research on german jewish history from the middle
ages to contemporary history.

Due to the long time distance, it's hard to find pictures of german jewish
soldiers and we'd appreciate your help in finding more information,
especially photos of jewish soldiers in uniform or military passes, iron
crosses, military awards and any other physical memorabilia.

The project leads to an exhibition in which jewish soldiers will have a
special place in the history of World War 1. The exhibition is going to
start in 2014 to honor the 100th anniversary of World War 1.

My contact information is Julia Meyer, [email protected]. Thank
you for your help and support in honoring the Jewish people and their
phenomenal history.
