Center for Jewish History Reference Services Internship Opportunities
The Center for Jewish History is seeking three interns for our Reference 
Services Department, to assist in special projects, research, and reference 
services. We seek applicants that are reliable, organized, detail oriented, and 
comfortable interacting with the public. This is an excellent opportunity for 
individuals looking for experience in special collections based research and 
reference services. Background in Jewish history is welcome, but not a 
requirement. While there is no monetary remuneration, we are happy to work with 
Masters Programs to ensure credit for hours worked. Positions will be 
approximately 120 hours over a semester, or 10 hours a week for 12 weeks. 
Scheduling is flexible.
Lillian Goldman Reading Room Intern
Under the supervision of the Senior Reference Services Librarian, the interns 
will be expected to perform the following duties:
*         Provision of reference service to CJH patrons and learn all aspects 
of the reference desk, including proficiency in the CJH OPAC, finding aids, and 
digital collections.
*         Answer in-person and telephone inquiries.
*         Supervise patrons in the Reading Room and provide instruction on 
handling archival, manuscript, and rare materials.
*         Use the CJH circulation system to general call slips for paging and 
circulate materials to patrons.
*         Page materials from the stacks.
*         Assist the supervising librarian on special projects as determined.
*         Photocopy materials for patrons as needed.

Research Intern
Under the supervision of the Reference Services Research Coordinator, the 
intern will be expected to perform the following duties:
*         Utilize the collections, internet, and subscription databases to 
research a wide range of topics, including those of interest to the intern.
*         Research and fact check for publications, reference inquiries, and 
exhibits.
Prerequisites:
*         Strong research and writing skills are required.
*         Knowledge of and interest in modern American, European, and Jewish 
history is preferred.
*         Proficiency in foreign languages, particularly German, Polish, 
Russian, Hebrew, or Yiddish is helpful but not required.
All interested in the social sciences (specifically history) and library 
science are welcome to apply. Please include a writing sample in your 
application.
LibGuides Intern
Under the supervision of the Systems Librarian, the intern will be expected to:
*         Edit and fact check existing LibGuides.
*         Search for outside dynamic content.
*         Create new LibGuides on a variety of subjects related to the 
collections at CJH.
*         Assist with usability testing of our LibGuides.
The candidate should have an enthusiastic interest in historical research, 
instruction, and technology.
