I'n not sure I understand Brain Hive. How will our library patrons have access to Brain Hive? Will the down load go directly to a patron's ereader? Do patrons or libraries have to register? Our library owns kindles that we lend. Can we download books to the library's kindles? What is the difference between a $1 download, and purchasing the ebook?
Thanks for clarifying, Clare Kinberg Temple Beth Emeth Library, Ann Arbor MI _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sussman, Joanna Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2013 1:03 PM To: Heather Lenson; Hasafran Subject: Re: [ha-Safran] E-books Kar-Ben is indeed in the process of working with Open Road to launch our titles as Read-Aloud ebooks which are available for a variety of e-readers including Kindle Fire, Nook Color, Kobo, iPads and other devices. These ebooks may be purchased through the Open Road landing page or directly through Amazon, B&N, iTunes, etc. Please be aware that not all e-readers currently offer audio capabilities for ebooks. We currently have about 20 Kar-Ben titles available for these e-readers and plan to have about 50 available in "Read-Aloud" format by year end, with all new Kar-Ben titles beginning with our Fall 2013 season to be available in this format. We are planning to make many of our backlist titles available for these devices as well, although not all will have the "Read-Aloud" function. In addition, Kar-Ben is in the process of launching a Judaica collection through an ebook platform called "Brain Hive," which will allow libraries access to any Kar-Ben title at $1 per download, meaning that there will be no need for your library to purchase individual e-books but rather that your library patrons will have access to Kar-Ben's entire e-book library at no charge and you will simply be charged $1 per download with the option of purchasing individual titles if you see there is great interest in particular books. Brain Hive titles will not initially offer the Read-Aloud function. Our Brain Hive collection will allow libraries to set budget parameters, and will provide an assortment of reports. I hope to have full information for AJL libraries available soon. We appreciate the interest of the AJL in our e-books!
