WHAT: RAGE TO LIVE: BOOK PRESENTATION BY HOLOCAUST HISTORIAN ANNA LANDAUER
WHEN: WEDNESDAY OCT. 23, 2013
Historian and educator Anna Andlauer presents the story of young Holocaust
survivors who were sheltered in an ancient Bavarian convent immediately after
their liberation from the concentration camps. The Kloster Indersdorf
Children's Center was established in July 1945 by a UN team and maintained a
population of 300 children from over twenty nationalities. These child
survivors were traumatized, orphaned, and homeless - longing for food and
attention. To tell this little-known story, the author has tracked down 50 of
the former children. Her research includes the Greta Fischer papers (Principal
Welfare Officer of the Center) held at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Enhanced by historical photos and film clips, Andlauer's presentation offers
insight into the creation of a therapeutic milieu for displaced children in the
American Zone of post-war Germany.

PROGRAMS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
